If you read up about the offer of unlimited bandwidth that a particular site is making, you will usually find that there are a number of conditions that need to be met in order to qualify for it. If it was truly possible, everyone would qualify for it regardless of what kind of site they had, what size it was or how many visitors they received every month.

Because it really doesn't exist, it's wise to be wary of any site which declares that it offers that very service. It's far better to go with a site that doesn't offer it and is very upfront about the kind of service you can expect to receive from them.

The big danger with opting to have your website hosted by a company that does claim to offer unlimited bandwidth is that if you should hit the ceiling that the word ?unlimited' refers to, you are likely to find yourself with major problems. Some companies have been known to cancel contracts with webmasters who unintentionally put the idea of unlimited bandwidth to the test and break one or more of the rules associated with it.

This can be disastrous for your website, as any prolonged downtime can result in a drop in your search engine ranking - leading to falling sales and visitor numbers as a result, even when you get back up and running again.

The bottom line is to go with a service provider who doesn't make wild and unsubstantiated claims - such as providing a service which doesn't exist.
